RODRIGO CUEVAS MANUAL DE CORTEJO
Traditional, Asturias, Galicia, Habaneras
Courtship Manual is a slow drive; made without haste, to listen without haste, to live without haste. In it there is a whole tour of Asturian rhythms and melodies seasoned with some rhythm and melody from other places on the peninsula.
In Manual de Cortejo there is a xiringüelu, there is a muiñeira, there are habaneras, there are songs of basket makers; there are texts that speak of the past, the future, the important and the dispensable; there are testimonials from women, there are field collections. There is a strong inspiration in the Tarabica, a character from Cimavilla (Xixón), whose story, when told, tells the story of Cimavilla throughout the entire 20th century and universalizes it. You can almost read the history of Western Europe through the testimonies of the Tarabica. Taking his example, on this record I make a sound X-ray of what for
For me it is Asturias, Galicia or each of the places whose traditional music moves me. A music and a story shaped by the need to please, to seduce: a Courtship Manual.
